With the best of five decades of music around the clock, KCR Live is online with a team of established local presenters and DJs. Together with AboutKnowsley.com, KCR Live is Knowsley's only all-in-one source of news, views, information and entertainment on the web.
Guests representing business and community organisations all over the borough took their seats at the Millbrook Manor hotel yesterday to enjoy a multimedia presentation about the website and radio station, a two-course Chinese buffet, and a star turn from Ken Dodd, one of the nation's favourite funnymen.
Among the specially invited guests were Mayor and Mayoress of Knowsley Jim and Josie Keight, and the cast of the St Helens Theatre Royal's Christmas pantomime, including former Brookside star Danny McCall.
"They tell me this website was set up to sell Knowsley," announced the famous Squire of Knotty Ash as he prepared to launch AboutKnowsley.com and KCRLive.co.uk, "and when they've done that, they're going to try to get shut of Widnes, too."
Listeners can tune in online 24 hours a day, experiencing CD-quality music with zero interference, and a live webcam lets the audience see what's happening in the studio.
As of the launch, the station has been broadcasting wall-to-wall music, but over the next few weeks, KCR Live will be bringing regular interviews and slots with some of the best local specialists in every genre of music, including rhythm'n'blues, country and classic hits.
"The Internet is the future," said entrepreneur Craig Ruddock of GCR Trading, the company behind the new web initiative. "With About Knowsley and KCR Live online now, the possibilities are limitless. We're bringing Knowsley into the Internet age."
