Officers from RAF Linton-on-Ouse near York say the webcam at George Fisher, the outdoor equipment shop in Borrowdale Road, is vital for providing last-minute information about fell top conditions.
The high fliers, along with walkers and climbers checking out the stunning views of the fell in winter, have tripled the number of visits to the site.
George Fisher managing director Michael Standring said hundreds of people had been logging onto its website at www.georgefisher.co.uk to view the Skiddaw webcam. It is particularly popular with people from the North East who check it before visiting the area.
