At the beginning of the year, two German students were at our school for their teaching practice. Together with the Maltese practitioners they tried out new teaching methods with our youngest pupils. They observed our practices and we shared their experience of German schools.
Towards the end of the year we hosted two students from the ETC who are following a course in child care. These were mature students with interesting outlooks of children. Again, the experience of our practitioners helped them in their stint of teaching practice and they left us with a heavy baggage of knowledge.
The highlight of life within the kindergarten was their participation in the Comenius project - "Our school, our world". Together with partner schools from Spain, England and France, the children and their teachers explored different aspects of life at school, home, the village they live in - their world.
The children now have a wealth of experiences in their life. It is worth mentioning the skills they achieved in IT. They can now use a webcam to chat with other children from partner schools and the two German students who left us unwillingly.
They can use a computer confidently to draw and interpret stories. The children can talk about themselves and their environment. A DVD entitled "Our school, our world" was also produced. Credit must be given to Christina Vella from the ICT Centre whose help was invaluable.
The Comenius project was also the theme used by the kindergarten section during the school's open week of activities. The children prepared numerous works which were admired by all those who visited us during this time. We also hosted representatives from the participating partner schools.
An important aspect of this project was the mobility opportunities offered by Comenius whereby all Maltese practitioners were given the chance to travel to the partner schools.
